Tasting Notes: The Caparsa Chianti Classico Riserva Doccio a Matteo presents as a complex and deep, yet deceptively mid-weight wine, exhibiting remarkable depth and energy. On the nose and palate, notes of dark fruits, specifically black cherry and concentrated wild cherry, are interwoven with nuanced layers of lavender, licorice, coffee, new leather, dried herbs, and a distinct ferrous minerality. It possesses a beautiful, lifted aromatic profile with a lively freshness and a firm, tannic structure that lends intensity and a long, elegant finish.
Estate History: The Caparsa winery is a family-run organic estate located in the high-altitude region of Radda in Chianti, in the heart of the Chianti Classico zone. The vineyards were originally purchased by Professor Reginaldo Cianferoni in 1965 and have been managed by his son, Paolo Cianferoni, since 1982. Paolo and his family follow a philosophy rooted in tradition, emphasizing organic certification and winemaking techniques handed down from historical sharecropping systems, aiming to produce authentic, earth-driven Sangiovese that reflects the unique terroir of Radda. The wines are known for their distinctive acidity, structure, and ability to age for decades.
